A: No, Naturopathic Medicine is not covered by OHIP - it is an out-of-pocket expense, and sometimes covered by extended benefits packages.

Q: Do you charge HST?

A: HST must be collected on the sale of natural health products, teas, and accessories.  However, Naturopathic Medical consultations and fees associated with laboratory tests are HST-exempt.

Q: Why are your visits so long?  Can I come in for a shorter amount of time?

A: Our NDs have had experience in conducting their visits in providing naturopathic medical care in all sorts of lengths and settings.  What became alarmingly clear over the years, was that the shorter visits just didn't cut it.  While our NDs always strove to provide care to their patients in the most cost-effective manner possible, and while shorter visits were met with great interest and demand (at least initially), they proved not to be as effective as they could be.

Our NDs have discovered that a full 1.5 hours is vitally required for the initial consultation in order to capture the FULL picture.  It takes time to go over everything, and splitting up that process into multiple visits breaks the flow and limits the depth of information that can be achieved.  Being so thorough in the first visit affords our patients benefits the last the entirety of their naturopathic medical care.  With every detail accounted for, our NDs can design treatment protocols that are more efficient and precise.  A poorly conducted initial visit whether due to insufficient time or otherwise, has long-lasting implications.

Follow-up visits that are sufficiently long are also incredibly important.  We are sure you can remember a time, perhaps many times when you have been rushed in and out of a doctor's office, with little to show for it.  Unfortunately, the system often only affords such a scenario due to time constraints.  However, the flexibility inherent in the naturopathic model allows us to structure things differently, and therefore, we opt to meet for a minimum of 45 minutes for each follow-up appointment.  In doing so, our NDs can most accurately assess how your treatment plan has been going so that any additional diagnostic information can be collected and the treatment plan can be adjusted as needed.

When meeting to go over lab test results, our NDs are also incredibly thorough.  We aim to educate (Docere - Doctor as teacher), and ensuring that you understand what your lab results mean and how your body is functioning is our goal.  We ensure there is always time left for questions so that you aren't left wondering or confused.  We explain what your lab results are telling us and the implications for your health and your treatment plan with us, and how we will work with you to correct them, if needed.  You get much more than a simple "it's normal" or "it's not normal" answer.

Because we want our patients to get the most out of their care and achieve great results with regards to their health and wellness goals, we structure our visits in a way so as to maximize this potential.

Q: Your visits seem pricey.  What determines how your fees are set?

A: Our visits are priced according to the guidelines set out by the College of Naturopaths of Ontario and the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors.  They are in line and comply with all guidelines and regulations and allow our clinic to continue to stay in business and our NDs to make a living to support themselves and their families.  Running a medical clinic and being a Naturopathic Doctor also come with extensive overhead and other expenses, such as licence, insurance, continuing education, professional federal and provincial assocations, office rent, staff/office manager wages, and additional fees which must be accounted for.

Our visits are set at certain lengths in order to most effectively serve our patients.  For more information about visit lengths and the resulting fees, please see the question and answer above.

Lastly, while the naturopathic profession is designed in a fee-for-service type of model, the type of care that our NDs provide doesn't quite fit into such a box.  Our NDs often take significant amounts of time preparing for patient visits and designing treatment plans outside of the appointment.  These extra hours aren't billed for, however, our NDs continue to put in the extra time due to the way it enhances the care that they provide.

When you decide to have one of our NDs join you on your health and wellness journey, you are getting so much more than a 45, 60, or 90 minute visit.  You are getting a health confidante, a partner in crime, a "Naturopathic Detective" on your side who has a vested interest in your health and vitality; in you feeling your best!

We wish that all healthcare providers were paid to get and keep patients healthy - wouldn't that be an incredible system?  Such a goal-oriented health care (not sick care) model would be revolutionary, but unfortunately that's not the way things are set up at this time.  So, we've done our best to set our fees in a way that are fair and allow us to provide optimal care.  We believe that you get what you pay for, and with our NDs, you are getting such incredible value for the fee, both short-term with regards to having your ND on your healthcare team and in the long-term with regards to your long-term health and longevity.  Targeted changes and approaches made now can have profound effects on the rest of your life!  We hope that we've conveyed just how powerful our medicine can be.  If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
