Core Menopause

Menopause..."the change" is something many women dread, but it doesn't have to be that way!

We often think of menopause with mixed emotions: a bit of relief at not having our period each month and no more worries about pregnancy (yay!), but there are also the negative aspects.  Hot flashes, night sweats, chills, insomnia, anxiety, depression, weight and body composition changes, thinning hair, dry skin, vaginal dryness, irregular periods, and sometimes even excessively long and heavy menstrual flow.  Yikes!  That sounds so pleasant, doesn't it?  Yeah, I didn't think so either...

The good thing is, it doesn't have to be that way.  Often, the severity of menopausal symptoms experienced is directly related to one's overall health.  If other aspects of your body or hormones are out of whack, chances are you are going to experience more intense menopausal symptoms.  In fact, women in most countries around the world experience little to no menopausal symptoms at all!  It is predominantly those in North America and Europe who seem to suffer most.  That alone offers our Naturopathic Doctors many clues as to why some people feel so horribly.

While some changes in the body are a natural and normal consequence of the changes in estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone, others are not normal and we can attempt to troubleshoot them using diet, clinical nutritional supplementation, herbs, homeopathy, and acupuncture.  Even still, those changes that appear "normal" can often be targeted as well, as there is an optimal level for each hormone, and sometimes the levels can fall too far below a normal menopausal level.

It is important to note that our NDs do not use any exogenous bioidentical hormones in their treatment plans.  This is not to say that these aren't effective - they often are.  However, our NDs prefer to use more natural means in supporting the body's own production and utilization of its endogenous hormones, while also reducing any external or internal "blocks" or interference that can reduce their effects.

Menopausal symptoms are one of those areas that can be very responsive to naturopathic treatments, so please don't continue to suffer.  Our NDs are here to help.  To book an appointment, please click here.
